If any  of these factors apply, t h is course is for you, especially if you’re looking for a n instructor who  has decades of perfumery experience.  A few students have told me they took the course because they’re very reserved and didn’t want to be immersed in a real-life classroom setting where they would have to participate.  I understa

A Camera That Captures Scent?

Designer Amy Radcliffe’s MA project at Central Saint Martins set out to bring a more meaningful sensory dimension to storing our favourite memories. What if you could recapture the aroma of that freshly baked birthday cake or the scent of the wild flowers in that Alpine meadow on your last holiday? Or maybe you would choose to recall the musky pong of your first pet, or the comforting whiff of that shampoo your girlfriend used to use? The Madeleine, named after Marcel Proust’s story of involuntary memory prompted by biting into a cake, is Radcliffe’s design for a new kind of camer

From the Vintage Vault – Rare Musk and Sweet Birch Bottles

Originally posted June 24, 2013 I’m going to revive my Vintage Vault series on beautiful perfume rarities.  that I hosted on my old blog site.  Here are two beauties and what I wrote about them previously: These Fritzsche bottles are very rare.  One perfumer told me the musk one is museum quality due to its rarity and design.  I’ve also a suspicion that the Sweet Birch one contains the pre-IFRA really great salicylic-rich sweet birch that is the type that was used in leather fragrances such as Cuir de Russie. “It’s the Right Thing to Do”! Perfumer Christi Meshell Set a Wonderful Example

Image
Originally published June 18, 2013 I clearly remember when I first received samples of Christi Meshell’s “ House of Matriarch ” perfumes.  She had submitted them to the  Natural Perfumers Guild  for evaluation by the Review Committee.  The masterful use of white cognac as a sparkling top-note was amazing.  The perfumes had a professional touch to them that elevated them in my eyes, and I have sniffed a lot of perfumes, so take my words as those of someone who was really, really impressed.  For example, I had been working with white cognac and hadn’t reached the success Christi had, so that is a big reason for the good memory. Christi’s perfumes were accepted into the Guild Scent Library, and she was awarded the title of Professional Perfumer.  Since then, Christi has been an active and progressive member of the Guild, and we have shared talks and emails about many topics.  I called her a few months ago when a store owner stated that Christi had developed a perfume for her store that c

Here is a message I sent to the group today, and I’d love to share it with you.  If you’d like to join the group, the homepage is  here . Ask the Perfumer 5/26/2013 When it comes in a dream

Originally posted May 26,2013 I jumped out of bed this morning because I got the solution to a design problem in a dream just as I was waking up.  Such exhilaration!  Have you experienced this? I have, many times because I pay attention to my dreams.  The problem was in the layout and design of a product for my students.  This product, which I call the “Natural Perfumery Menu” has been in the works for several years.  I had put it aside as other projects and demands took up my time, but after reviving it this past week, my subconscious went to work to aid my conscious mind! There are still elements to be worked out, but I am on the right track now, and it feels great! PS: The Menu will be a wonderful tool for everyone interested in natural perfumery, not just my students 🙂 Any perfumery problems or roadblocks troubling you?  Ask me, maybe I can help.  I’ll be here until 10 PM ET, USA.
