Anya's Garden Perfumes + The Natural Perfumery Institute

 There are thousands of flower clusters on this orange jasmine tree, Murraya paniculata. It's almost 30 years old, and blooms several times a year, often on the full moon. the scent is gorgeous, and it diffuses for over 100 feet. I've been harvesting the flowers for tincture for years, making sure to do it early in the day because thousands of bees descend on it in a frenzy by afternoon. She plucked a few flowers, and put them on her kitchen counter and they fragranced the room for the day. The pruning is needed to produce new growth, and the flowers appear on the new growth. Other gardeners just wouldn’t do it, fearing I would not like the woody, bare look of the tree, but I’m a horticulturist and botanist, and I had the tree managed for many years that way, but I just couldn’t convince them.
