Ask the Perfumer - Sunday, July 1, 2012 - until 10 PM EST

July 1st!  Hope you're having summer fun in the Northern Hemisphere, and cool times in the Southern.  Any perfumery questions today?

  1. Dear Anya:

The linden trees are in full bloom and I'm intoxicated at the scent. Can you recommend how to capture the scent?

  2. Can you tell me how much initital investment is needed to set up a natural perfume business? I'm a beginner and I am hopeful about gettig in o n the ground floor.

  3. Hi Ricki

The best way to capture the scent of linden blossoms is to tincture them. Use 190 proof alcohol and fill the jar with the blossoms and cover with the alcohol. Drain daily and replace the blooms. You may have to do this many times before you get a strongly-scented tincture.

    Best wishes,
