Ask the Perfumer - Sunday, April 15, 2012

Dear Friends:

I'm back hosting "Ask the Perfumer" every Sunday, after a few weeks off due to the death of my mother.  Life changes can be traumatic, but also a look towards a future that, if you're a  positive person like myself, holds many wonderful possibilities.  I didn't blend at all the past five or six months, because of my energies being channeled towards my mother, but I now feel renewed and will soon be back to making mods, challenging myself with the direction the perfume takes, and otherwise being engaged in all things related to natural perfumery, education, and the Guild.

I'd love to again start receiving your perfume-making queries, so I'll be here until 10 PM EST (USA).

  1. I am very sorry to hear of your mother's passing, and I will keep you in my prayers.

The question I wish to pose is can a natural perfume be made without animal bits? I read time and again that animal tinctures are needed. As a strict vegan, I cannot move forward with this thought.

  2. Hi Anya

If I sign up for your home study course, will I be able to switch to the online if I wish?

  3. Dear Rowena:

Thank you for your kind words about my mother and me.

No need to feel forced to use animal essences in your perfumes. There are many botanical essences available that will provide you with fixation and depth.

    HTH,
    Anya

    Hi Anya,
In the study kit #1 from the course there is amyris.
I had never heard of that before and I like it very much!
Have you ever used it in your blends? I also received from kit#2 nagarmotha, which I'm now crazy for.

  6. Hi Kristie:

Amyris is so calm, soft and subtle, isn't it? In the next level of studies you'll learn some great tips on using it. Yes, I've used it in RiverCali and MoonDance

    xoxo,
    Anya
