Project Boxgasm Announcement: If you are an artisan who makes perfume, bath & body products, aromatherapy products, candles - you can now make your own custom boxes! The Natural Perfumers Guild wishes to share this discovery with everyone, so please share the link to this blog with other groups, forums and chat places you may frequent. The more the merrier - let's upgrade our products to the next level, with lovely, custom boxes! I am the President of the Guild, and I like to roam social media sites and check out, and "like" the various projects and announcements of the Guild members. Little did I dream when I visited a Facebook page of one of our members, a page that only had 21 followers, since it's new, that I'd discover something that can help all artisan small business owners. But there it was, an iconic image out of South Africa - custom perfume boxes! When I called some members of the Natural Perfumers Guild and told them about the discovery th...
Good afternoon Anya,
ReplyDeleteHow long do you run your ultrasonic? Does the time vary depending on the material you're using?
Lisa
Hi Lisa:
ReplyDeleteThe timing depends on the material. Also, some materials need to be 'recharged" multiple times, especially flowers. My ultrasonic has a 30 minute timer. I typically run it the 30 minutes, and then for another 30 minutes, and if it's going to need more material, I pour the strained alcohol into an airtight jar and place it in the refrigerator. For instance, if your tuberoses or jasmines bloom in waves, you pick and recharge the alcohol with each wave, repeating the straining and refrigeration.
Some materials give up their scent very easily, like my Corsican mint. I only needed one session to get a quart of highly-scented gorgeous clear, clean mint.
I never use the heat setting, btw. I'm just afraid it'll be too much for the delicate flowers especially.
xoxo

Dear Anya:
ReplyDeleteI will be in Miami in November. Do you teach classes at that time?
Rita
Hi Rita:
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't unless you're already a student who has passed the basic course and want a private Intermediate course. We will be having a local natural perfumers meetup in November, so email me your dates and we'll see if you can make that.
Anya
i thought it might be interesting for people how big a batch of perfume you make at a time? so for example, if you were making new inventory of Light... how much do you make at a time? (plus, i have never joined the conversation here. *grin*)
ReplyDeletemuch light, einsof
Hola, Einsof, nice seeing your first post here. Had dinner with Brian Shea tonight, Elise, others... you would have loved it. Natural perfumes were spritzed and shared with wild abandon. Even my bottle of Light came out ;-)
ReplyDeleteI typically make 500mls at a time, and with best sellers, like Pan, MoonDance, StarFlower, 1000mls.
xoxo
Anya
Hi Anya,
ReplyDeleteI had a great time at dinner tonight, it was so nice to meet you and others in person, smell everyone's stuff and I was glad I got to share my creations with everyone. It's funny, I was going to ask the same question tonight as Einsof just did, either I forgot or the conversation veered off in a different direction.
Hi Brian:
ReplyDeleteYes, the meeting was great, and I'm glad I finally got to meet you. Your perfumes are beautiful, and you can make a business with them for sure. Lulu really loved the left over steak, as expected. I'm glad I didn't eat another bite, it was all so delicious and of course, the company was wonderful. Here's to many more meetings and building up natural perfumery in our hot and humid corner of the world ;-)
xoxo
