Ask the Perfumer - Sunday, March 27, 2011 - until 10 PM EST

Ask the Perfumer is open for questions from hot and humid Miami - summer is giving us a sneak peek with 90F-degree weather today.  I'm just in from watering my plants, which, since we're on water restrictions, is only on Wednesday and Sunday, and I'm wilting.  Perk me up with your questions.

And today is a very special day for Mandy Aftel, master natural perfumer - she's nominated for three FiFi Awards from the Fragrance Foundation.  I believe it's the first ever Indie Awards by them, so it's quite a coup.

  1. Good Morning,
I am just heading out to do some chores, I didn't realize you had
    water restrictions too.

In creating Pan, was the tincture included as an essence? I was not sure since it is alcohol.

    Congrats to Mandy!

  2. Hi Denise:

Florida is a semi-arid subtropical area, with just 55 inches of rain a year. We have no reservoirs, if you can believe that!

I'm only watering newly-transplanted plants, as I have a water-thrifty garden, by design.

Yes, in Pan the goat tincture was used as one might use an ambergris tincture.

  4. Denise, UV light is used for all sorts of disinfecting/sanitizing jobs. The light has to be able to reach all parts of the object, though.

Also realize that the light has to be on the object for a sustained period of time.

If you want to pursue this further, you can do so in the student yahoo group, where we can get more specific to your particular needs.
