ReplyDeleteAbout tincturing billy goat hair. Do you use the hair from the top of the head where the scent glands are or did you use the hair gets sticky from where the billy sprays himself when it's in rut?

From the head around the horns: That hair will give you a lovely musky tincture that smells like goat cheese and the musky scent component of labdanum.
From the back of the hind legs: That hair will give you a musk more like traditional deer musk.
If a goat is skittish about having anybody near his hind quarters, a quick rub with a cotton cloth soaked in alcohol, then tincturing the cloth works. I never did this, but Salaam has, and recommends this method. If you're brave, use scissors ;-)
