Perfume in the Sunlight

Perfume in the Sunlight by  Anya McCoy  |  Feb 3, 2017  |  Anya's Garden Perfumes  |  2 comments I have been busy with new perfume labels and decided to try some new photos. I typically like a clean white background, and I may do that for the new website, but for this photo, I decided to capture some sunlight with the back garden included. I’m very happy with the prisms that appeared but did notice that the bottles were underfilled a bit. Corrected, up to the brim now! Do you like this photo? It’s a departure from my usual backdrops, for sure. Anya’s Garden Perfumes If there is anyone in the Miami area who has experience with product photography, please contact me. I would like to discover new ways to showcase my perfume, soaps, botanicals, textbook, and other related products. One problem is many of the printed words in my photos appear blurred, such as the words Anya’s Garden Perfumes within the botanical golden leaves of my logo. This is an ongoing problem, and I’d love to sol

The Beauty of Botanicals Made Liquid – The Passion of Natural Perfumers

The Beauty of Botanicals Made Liquid – The Passion of Natural Perfumers This article originally appeared on Basenotes.net on Feb. 20, 2008 by Anya McCoy 20th February, 2008 This flower is at the limit of wilting or decomposition that I will allow into my tincture.  On-the-spot decisions are necessary when processing botanicals, and hands-on natural perfumers become adept at the process. The 21st Century Revival and Redefinition of Natural Perfume by Natural Perfumers Like everyone who has progressed with passion, training, and persistence to become a perfumer, the new wave of natural perfumers started with an intense love of scents. Many can trace their formative moment – the zing of recognition – when a scent transformed their life, and put them on the path of creation. They probably smelled everything around them (as did I) from grass to dirt, flowers, other people, cement, perfume, cereal, ink, paper, plastic dolls, toys, food cooking, hair, furniture, the air before a storm, rotten

A New Edition of Kewdra Perfume From the Mystery of Musk project (2010)

A New Edition of Kewdra Perfume From the Mystery of Musk project (2010) by  Anya McCoy  |  Mar 2, 2014  |  Anya's Garden Perfumes ,  Mystery of Musk project  |  1 comment Exotic Kewdra perfume from Anya’s Garden was made as an homage to the main character Kudra, from Jitterbug Perfume, a wonderful novel about perfumery. An update on the progress of the Perfume From Your Garden book: Yes, it’s Saturday night, and I’m writing. Going in-depth about ultrasonic extractions, both for tincturing and infusing. I’ve also been playing with my perfumery supplies, too, and just checked on my latest edition of Kewdra, my heady, lusty perfume honoring Kudra, the heroine of the book Jitterbug Perfume. The spelling is slightly different from her name because I use the kewda flower as the top note, so I combined them. Anyway, I’m dazzled by this latest edition, which will be ready in a week or so, and so I doused myself (1 ml, tops!) and I’m Kudra for a day. Here’s a fun graphic I made to illustr

Daniel kindly offered to share details to help everyone find and adapt these stainless steel goodies for their perfume business. Here’s Daniel’s helpful blog, and don’t forget to check out the link and the end to the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles, where he’s on the faculty. Greetings, I was surprised to wake up the other morning to Anya’s Blog post about the Film Developing Reels I have used for years, as Scent Strip holders. I also appreciate everyone, from all over the world, that has contacted me over the last week. Sharing helpful information and knowledge fills me with joy. Originally I found my first three “35mm Film Developing Ree

Scented Geraniums Have Glorious Perfume

Scented Geraniums Have Glorious Perfume by  Anya McCoy  |  Nov 19, 2013  |  Anya's Garden Perfumes ,  natural perfume ,  raw materials of perfumery  |  2 comments Scented geraniums have delicate, beautiful flowers that also carry the scent of the particular variety I was delighted that several scented geraniums I planted last spring survived the hot, humid Miami summer. Pelargoniums are native to the high desert of South Africa, so they like it on the dry side. I just planted a dozen varieties so they can grow during the winter, and I’m looking forward to distilling and tincturing them come the Spring harvest. Did you know that these beautifully-scented geraniums often have gorgeous flowers?  The flowers are delicate and heavily scented also. I have attar of roses, bourbon, musk, several lemon types, almond, and some wild cards just for curiosity. I had a professor in Syracuse who had a 20-year-old scented geranium in his office, and I’ve grown them successfully indoors when I li

Ask the Perfumer 5/26/2013 When it comes in a dream

Originally posted May 26,2013 I jumped out of bed this morning because I got the solution to a design problem in a dream just as I was waking up.  Such exhilaration!  Have you experienced this? I have, many times because I pay attention to my dreams.  The problem was in the layout and design of a product for my students.  This product, which I call the “Natural Perfumery Menu” has been in the works for several years.  I had put it aside as other projects and demands took up my time, but after reviving it this past week, my subconscious went to work to aid my conscious mind! There are still elements to be worked out, but I am on the right track now, and it feels great! PS: The Menu will be a wonderful tool for everyone interested in natural perfumery, not just my students 🙂 Any perfumery problems or roadblocks troubling you?  Ask me, maybe I can help.  I’ll be here until 10 PM ET, USA.
