The Vintage Vault - Aromatic Beauties from a Perfumer's Collection

Tonquin Musk and Sweet Birch - from Anya's Garden Perfumes Vintage Vault

These Fritzsche bottles are very rare.  One perfumer told me the musk  one is museum quality due to its rarity and design.  I've also a suspicion that the Sweet Birch one contains the pre-IFRA really great salicylic-rich sweet birch that is the type that was used in leather fragrances such as Cuir de Russie.  I'm having some trouble getting the stopper out of the Sweet Birch bottle, but if you leave a comment, you'll be in the running for a half milliliter (enough for a sniff and a few applications) of the Tonquin musk.  There were some grains left in the bottle when I got it, and I rehydrated them, plus added a few musk grains of my own.  The comments must all be in by 11:59 PM Feb 28th.  Good luck!

  1. Oh, I'd love to get a sniff of the Tonquin musk- but I never win anything. And I use sweet birch in a shaving cream I make, to rave reviews. I'll have to do more research on pre-IFRA sweet birch.

    Hi Anya!

I had the opportunity to smell real musk tincture once but it was a very low dilution of it, and yet I still fell in love with it. It would be awesome to have a tiny bit of it again in this vintage format. Please add me to the draw. :)

  7. rare and aged Toniquin Musk :-) I am already there being the Musk enthusiast that I am. I have collected few from my travels in the middle and Far east, profumo and Bruce at SMK Fragrances among others but I don't think I ever had the chance to smell something so rare and pretty old like this...I have been tormented by the ethical issues of harvesting Musk so I stopped purchasing it but this will be most appreciated and most welcomed. Any idea about the concentration % of the tincture?

    2. Lol, I always write anonymouse when I mean anonymous - and someone caught the typo in the original blog post, where I called sweet birch sweet bitch. I'm incorrigible!

  10. Gloria, to the fill line you see, they're 20ml. Looks like if they were topped off, they'd be 22ml.

    Good luck,

  11. GASPS!!!!

Nothing excites me than the past that's forgotten yet cherished by the senses and sense. Even if you dont know what it is but you know it from somewhere. But what I missed is the golden opportunity our forefathers didn't have the chance to pass it down to us. As for creativity, a life smelt will always never be forgotten but a waning memory and passing on, you cant do anything about it. I'm talking about my grandfather who used to have all these remnants of passion, but left the earth too soon before being able to complete his passion by passing them down to me. I could have got it but a wolf got to it first. I saw them before and now I'm feeling emotional.

  13. Sweet bitch! :D I'll have some of that! LOL! Wow, real musk! How exciting. I and I'm sure many others have never smelled it. I'm always amazed at the scented treasures you have Anya, and your wonderful generosity with sharing some of them. But I'm a little confused now. Isn't birch TAR that's used for Russian Leather? Or should I say bitch tar?

  21. I am amazed at the abundance of aromatic treasures the world offers and the ones that you have Anya! You inspire the perfumer in me to find them in the diverse floral kingdom that I live in, as well as the greater floral regions of the world. What I wouldn't give to have a sniff at the magic on offer!

  31. Oh my goodness! The bottles alone are enough to make me swoon. I can only imagine what the contents must smell like. But I have a major thing for old containers. I go nuts for films that have old bottles and lab equipment in them. And the scenes of the perfume shop from the movie Perfume put me in orbit. Wowzie - you have some really wonderful bottles here! Can't wait to read of the scent descriptions too!

  32. hmm.... can't read about this without adding a line to represent me in the draw as well...

    1. Mumsy and Kostas - I just got lucky on eBay. I've been collecting them for years. Did y'all see the cassie absolute from 1906 I blogged about a few weeks ago? http://anyasgarden.blogspot.com/2012/02/vintage-vault-aromatic-beauties-from.html or the vintage neroli that is probably just as old? http://anyasgarden.blogspot.com/2012/02/vintage-vault-aromatic-beauties-from_11.html
